How can I delete a category?

I’m trying to re-organize my posts but seem to have no way to change or delete categories.
It still exists, with a random-numbered title, after I’ve deleted a category.
Do I have to edit all the posts one by one under the category I’m trying to delete?

Thank you very much but I think the problem has been solved.
It bothered me for long; now I’m finally able to delete categories completely.
I’m sorry that I should have re-tried before I posted my question.May I ask some more questions?
Now I can delete any category and posts assigned to it would be set to a default category.
But what if I don’t want to delete the whole category?
Can I REMOVE a category lable from posts in bulk?
(I can only ADD category by “Bulk Action” > “edit” fuction.)A similar problem is that I seem to have to edit all the posts one by one if I want to assign posts to different categories (to CHANGE, not ADD, to another category).
For example…
I have 80 posts assigned to category A.
What am I supposed to do to remove the category lable from 40 posts of those,
and what to do to change the category lable into category B, which exits already, for 20 posts of category A?Here is my blog: http://liliaxlilia.wordpress.com/
But unfortunately I was too upset and deleted all my categories.

You can both.
To delete, add, and manage any category, go to
Site Dashboard > Posts > Categories.Do delete tags, go to the tagged post, and roll-over the tag you want to delete. There should be a little X by it – click it and your done. Just make sure to update the post.
