I think the best way to do this would be automatically with a query string on the login link itself.
For example:
http://YOUR_DOMAIN_NAME/wp-login.php?redirect_to=URL
Replace YOUR_DOMAIN_NAME with your domain name and replace URL with the link you want someone to be taken to after they log in.

This is the best way to prevent spam: http://akismet.com/ It is already built in to WordPress.com, so you don’t have to add anything if you are using a WordPress.com blog.

Akismet is free.
Use Publicize, on your Settings->Sharing page.
You cannot create a new sidebar. Did you mean how to add a new widget to the sidebar? Drag it into the sidebar on your dashboard Widgets page.
You cannot move your sidebar from one side to the other on themes that don’t have the option for a left or right sidebar without the Custom Design upgrade and a knowledge of CSS editing.
