How can I delete a registered domain?

    My client had a WordPress hosted blog, and was paying to use a custom domain name. We have now built a stand alone WordPress site, hosted elsewhere, and have moved the domain name to point to the new website. How can we remove the registered domain from his old WordPress blog (gusbaldwin.wordpress.com) so that there are no more charges? Thanks.

    I see you have already marked the WordPress.com site private. If you want to delete it, follow the steps here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/delete-site/

    Please remember, once a site is deleted on WordPress.com that name can NEVER be used again!

    I believe you have already accomplished this. Although gusbaldwin.com has been registered, it is not using WordPress.com nameservers.

    Yes, the domain is successfully pointing to the new self-hosted site. However, if I log into the old WordPress blog and look at:

    Store > My Upgrades

    it still says that it will auto-renew the $13/year charge next May. How do we cancel the “Add a Domain” service that we purchased before? Do we just have to delete the old blog? Thanks.

    You will also need to communicate using the account with control of the domain in order to validate the cancellation.

    You can set your .wordpress.com blog to private and retain it as a backup blog. To change blog visibility to Private go to Dashboard > Settings > Reading scroll down to Blog Visibility and choose option 3. See the guide here http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings

    Not to worry. Staff will remove the domain mapping for you and answer your questions as well. I tagged this thread for them to do that. Please subscribe to it so you are notified when they respond. To subscribe look in the sidebar of this thread, find the subscribe to topics link and click it.

    The owner of the Domain Mapping Upgrade may remove the mapping by logging in and visiting the My Upgrades page here:
