How can I delete followers?

I manage a corporate blog, and we have several followers who are former employees. When they initially followed the blog, they used their work email address, so there’s no option for them to unsubscribe. How can I delete these followers?
I read several older forum posts about a similar issue, and would be surprised if WordPress hasn’t addressed this by now since so many admins seem to have requested it already. Hoping this support forum yields some better answers.

Hello!
When you are logged into WordPress.com, jump to My Sites (select the website on which you wish to remove followers) -> People -> Followers.
Once there, you can just click on Remove button next to the follower you wish to delete.
