How can I delete my domain and get a full refund?
-
My domain came with the wrong name! I wanted a “.com” account, paying the extra $18 (plus the $99 for the premium service), but probably only selected the second. Now instead of http://www.brokencups.com, I got http://www.brokencupsdotcom.wordpress.com!
I need to delete the account I’ve made and try a new one. How can I do that??
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I’m freaking out here! We need the site up and running ASAP. How can we delete the current site, get a refund and then start a new one! Please help us quick!
-
I have flagged this for staff attention – but lets start to fix things
Don’t delete w.brokencupsdotcom.wordpress.com! – we will deal with that in a moment – that is FREE you were not charged for it
What do you see at
Dashboard >> Store >> My Upgrades?Your domain name .brokencups.com, – did not get registered – register it using the instructions below – when you get to checkout the $ 99.- package will have a credit so there will be no additional charge
Be back shortly with more instructions – worst that happens is you have an extra charge and the staff can fix that easily for you

What do you want as your base WordPress.COM blog name? In a way it does not matter since you are going to use Domain Mapping which hides the base name and displays the custom name for the visitors.
I personally like a name that is close to the Custom / Mapped Domain name.
brokencupsband.wordpress.com – is reserved for you if you want
You can also use http://brokencupsdotcom.wordpress.com/ – since domain mapping will change the URL seen by visitors
If you want to use that name for your base blog, go ahead and register it
Dashboard >> My Blogs >> Register a new blog – you can have more than one blog per name
https://brokencupsband.wordpress.com/wp-admin/index.php?page=my-blogs
http://brokencups.wordpress.com/ – has is already registered by someone – so it is off limits unless one of your band members registered it two years ago or you can contact the owner and convince them to transfer it to you – but since you will be using domain mapping it does not matter

I’m totally lost here. Yesterday I’ve selected two services: the $18 domain “.com” (without the wordpress) and the $99 personalized premium account (or whatever it’s called). By the end, I thought I’d bought the http://www.brokencups.com domain and could manipulate it anyway I wanted, since it was the special-99-bucks-edition…
Now, I’m stuck with a normal blog, without the “.com” domain, having a ridiculous name (brokencupsdotcom.wordpress.com!!!) and I can’t seem to find any of the advantages promised… Am I missing something here? Please help me! If you could AT LEAST turn http://www.brokencupsdotcom.wordpress.com into http://www.brokencups.com, that would already be excellent.
Cheers.

NO! I want http://www.brokencups.com! Not brokencupsband.wordpress.com! Not http://brokencupsdotcom.wordpress.com/ ! I’ve just paid 99 bucks for the damn thing! Please, change it to the dotcom domain!!

Once you have brokencups.com registered and you have decided on which base blog name you want to use – go to the Dashboard of the WordPress.COM blog your are going to map your brokencups.com domain to
Dashboard >> Store >> Domains >> Add Domain to blog – at the bottom of the page you will see that name of the blog you are going to add the domain mapping to – make sure that is the correct blog name (note – you will not see brokencups.com below – that is normal)
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
Once you have mapped the domain name – it can take 24 to 72 hours for changes to reach the far corners of the internet and for access to calm down – changes usually start in a few hours and due to local caching issues you will probably be the last one to see the changes
Important note – when you are in your Dashboard – you will never see brokencups.com – this is normal – you will see and work in the base WordPress.COM blog (your-blog.wordpress.com)
There is no way to speed up the changes across the internet, but clearing your browser cache and forcing a page reload can sometimes allow you to see changes.
Post your progress here and someone can check with Domain Helper to see if you have made the changes correctly
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-helper/
Good luck

Please read and follow the instructions I have above – if you do you will end up with brokencups.com –
and until you register that domain name using the instructions above nobody can help you – not even the staff since they can’t register domain names for people because they don’t have the required contact info

Ok, last question. I’ve done all these things you said, gone to Dashboard >> Store >> Domains >> Add Domain to blog… But than, they send me to a page in which I’d have to pay for the domain “.com”… Does that mean that I haven’t purchased it yet? The $99.00 don’t cover that? I’m confused. When I was about to pay the extra money for this conversion, I see on the side of the page a box saying:
“”Or, grab the $99 bundle and save!
You’ll get your custom domain (brokencups.com) plus:
10GB, no ads etc.”Well, I’ve already paid the 99.00! Will I have to pay these extra 18.00?
I’m sorry for all this trouble and thanks very much for your patience…
-
I see that you have registered brokencups.com – you should not have needed to pay any extra – there should have been a credit at some point so you did not need to pay any extra – it seems to be a bit confusing where it looks like you are going to pay then don’t
The $ 99.- / year is all that you should be charged – if something goes wrong in the store and checkout process, the staff have a real good record of making sure you are not over charged
If you have not already did the Domain Mapping, go ahead and do the Mapping and you should be good to go as soon as the changes migrate across the internet
Since I flagged this for the staff earlier, they can review the charges on your account and make sure you were not over charged
You be welcome for the help – glad it seems to be working out – the first time through the process of setting up a new blog and the domain mapping and all can be very overwhelming –

Well, I’ve paid the extra $26 and now I have the .com domain. Great. However, I still don’t understand why I’ve paid the $99 before, since all I got now is a regular blog , without any particular advantages, in a .com domain that I’ve purchased using extra dough… All very confusing. Maybe I’m just dumb (and I don’t use this sentence rhetorically! I’m terrible with computers), but I can’t stop feeling I’ve been kind of ripped off here…
What did the $99 bucks gave me? What are the advantages? Jesus, this whole thing is killing me!…

The $ 99.- bundle saves you some money ( 40% ) if you need all of the upgrades. I have some upgrades but not the $ 99.- since I don’t need the CSS or extra storage – the bundles only make sense if you need enough of the single upgrades to save money over single pieces
See the links below that explains what all is included
http://store.wordpress.com/bundles/
http://store.wordpress.com/premium-upgrades/pro-bundle/
Sometimes the “buy the upgrade” ads seem to be a bit in your face from what people have said in the forum – I have just got used to the ads for the upgrades now and pay no attention
The staff will fix the $ 26.- for you – you will not be overcharged
-
I like a custom domain name (brokencups.com) in your case – easier to remember and has more class I think – I use a custom domain name.
Looks way better on a business card or banner.
-
Oh, thank you very much! You’ve been extraordinarily kind! I still don’t get most of it, but I’ll get there!
Cheers and, once again, thanx for the patience!

Hi there – I’ve refunded the $26.00 extra that you paid and you should see that on your statement in about a week. It looks like @captnmike did a great job helping you out with the rest of your questions. :)
Is there anything else I can help you with now?
