How Can I Disable Akismet?

it may sound weird, but i want comments on my page, either if its spam or not.
Is it possible for my blog readers to automatically post their comments without
    my authorization

  • You can’t disable Akismet at WordPress.com. Your blog would be overwhelmed by spammers if you did.

But you don’t need to disable it to allow your readers to post comments without your intervention. I think what you’re looking for is the “Comment author must have a previously approved comment” checkbox on your Settings / Discussion tab.

@livinhealthy-could we please have a link to your WordPress.COM blog so we can know if you’re using WordPress.COM as your platform and our answers will be relevant. Thanks!

@tellyworth, assuming that the poster is on COM, but then you’d still have to moderate the first comment by each commenter, no? Or did you mean that in order to have immediate posting of comments, that box needs to be unchecked? (I thought the second was the default setting for comments.)

Well if porn spam goes through, your readers might not appreciate those comments being shown. It might be disguised as something else and then they click the link and are then bombarded with porn.

There are also virus spams. Looking like you have a lot of comments is good and all, but what happens if your reader clicks on one of the spam links (as spam usually has a lot of links)? If they get led to a virus page, what makes you think that they’ll want to read your blog again?

Aside from blogging here, I’m a moderator for a self-hosted blog that uses WordPress software, so I’m very much aware of the stuff that Akismet catches. Without Akismet, in a typical day there would be an endless number of comments with hundreds — perhaps thousands — of links to all the perversions in the universe, as well as replica watches, discount meds, casinos, insurance, anatomical enhancement elixirs, etc. You don’t want that stuff showing up on your blog, no matter how desperate you might be for traffic.

I use to wonder why no one commented on my blog when other similar blogs I am a member of did. Now I wish I didn’t get most of the comments I do. lol Crazy people out there. But many people don’t comment. They just like reading the blog.
