How can I disable the new videopress from allowing content to be saved?

With the old videopress I could keep videos from being shared. I have many 30-50 year old videos I use in my articles that allowed me to be linked by Washington Post, Sports Illustrated, and several websites. I didn’t want them to be shared. Now instead of linking to my site others can just come right click and download it and upload it to their site where I have no control. Please let me know how I can disable this or Word Press has killed how I grow my blog.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I’m glad you pointed this out. This is horrific. There are other problems with the new VideoPress. Your saved thumbnail is not recognized and at least in Internet Explorer 11 if you try to expand the video to full screen, the screen goes black.

As an emergency measure I felt I had no choice but to delete all 129 videos from my site until issues resolved. There are copyright and intellectual property issues involved, so I can’t afford to have my videos displayed in a mode where they can be freely downloaded at will by the viewer. It will take me days to recover once they have fixed VideoPress.

I’m including link to video image for what you see when you right-click on a VideoPress clip that is playing. Sharing was not enabled for this video yet it allows you to download video or “copy video url”.

Both of these “features” must be removed.

    Hi there,

Thank you for raising this concern with the new VideoPress! I am checking with our team now about that right-click to download option, and I will let you know as soon as I have more information for you about that.

To rachaelmcr; I should also add that the right-click option also reveals an “inspect element” feature; when you click on that, it highlights the video url which can then easily be copied; this feature also needs to be removed as it defeats the supposed privacy settings for VideoPress.

I am also getting the same problem of a video embedded in a blog turning the screen black when expanded to full view in IE11. The video had been functioning perfectly for over a year until the new VideoPress was introduced. If the URL of the video is pasted in a new tab it function perfectly when expanded.

I also tried viewing my same blog using Google Chrome and it works perfectly both expanded and contracted.

Hi skyvisionsolutions, thanks for that additional feedback.

@micksmuses — Thanks for reporting that issue. We’ve had some other people also let us know about issues with full-screen viewing in IE 10 and 11, and I’ll your details to the open report about that.

Hi Rachel, I have also had difficulty adding video since the day I posted this. Each video uploads yet when I move to preview and press play…nothing. Can you please help?

Yes SkyVisions, I also dislike the inability to capture thumbnail or have previous selected thumbnails recognized. WordPress, please address this

    Hi jeftaylor,

Can you please start a new forum thread about the difficulty you’re having adding videos? That way we can troubleshoot that issue more in depth and gather more information about it, separate from the sharing issues discussed here.

We’ve reported the sharing concerns to our team, and I’ll add your feedback to that report. I can’t promise that any changes will be made but I’ll certainly let you know when I know more about that.

Additional new problem noted at: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/videopress-timer-not-advancing-when-playing-videos-with-ie11?replies=1

I’m in the process of uploading all my videos to Vimeo Plus; I can’t deal with all these problems with no resolution.
