How can I display the “Leave a Comment” more prominently on the page? Most readers have a hard time finding it!
Is there a widget?

The free and easy way to do this is to place a text widget at the top of your sidebar with a brief message. http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/text-widget/
If you have CSS editing skills and are willing to pay for an annually renewable CSS upgrade and do the work yourself it MAY be possible to make the phrase more prominent or not. There is a preview function here > Appearance > edit CSS and you can try before you buy without your visitors detecting any changes to the blog.

I have done this in html/css I use the Atahualpa theme which makes it easy.
I don’t know where you would put it in another theme, perhaps you can suggest, timethief..post-footer .comments-link {
