How can I edit, rename or delete categories?
-
I want to delete some of my categories, and rename some other ones. I can’t find a way of doing this.
I have looked this up on google and posted here before, and the advice is always to go to ‘Posts’ and then ‘Categories’ and then you can supposedly edit your categories. However, there is no menu with ‘Posts’ and then ‘Categories’ in my wordpress account. The closest thing I can find is a sidebar on the left, which has ‘Blog Posts’ but not ‘Posts’. When I click on ‘Blog Posts’, the sub-menus are ‘published’ and ‘drafts’, there’s no ‘categories’ sub-menu.
When I’m writing a post, I can click on ‘Categories and Tags’ and see my categories, but I can’t edit them other than adding a new category. Please help!!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The Admin login link to the dashboard for every blog hosted by wordpress.COM is:
http://NAME_OF_BLOG.wordpress.com/wp-admin/
* You will have to replace “name_of_blog” with your actual blog’s name in that URL.
If the log-in information is lost you need to visit https://en.wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword
1. To edit or delete a category assigned to a post (whether it’s a draft or has already been published), go to Dashboard → Posts → All Posts in your dashboard, hover over the title and click the Edit link. To delete the post click the Trash link.
For editing post in the new editor see https://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/#go-back-and-edit-posts
2. To edit/delete categories in your dashboard go to Dashboard → Posts → Categories

3. To edit or delete dynamic category pages from your custom menu go to Dashboard > Appearance > Menus

4. To edit or delete Tags go to

@ Timethief Don’t you think it’s time WordPress sorted this out? New users at the “Calypso” new menu/dashboard can add as many categories as they like but still cannot edit/delete them. The OP is understandably confused and probably wasn’t aware of wp-admin.

@themagicrobot
If you want to start a campaign as a change agent for that – go for it. :)I refuse to waste my time and effort on making such suggestions and on providing feedback on whatever curve balls (new features) we are thrown next. I got tired of coping with the continual changes and hoop jumping that were all advertised as improvements because they made my blogging experience worse not better. I cancelled my domains and archived my sites some time ago now. In other words and politely stated, I’m all in and all done.

Yes I’m with you on most points but we have to accept that at least half of the people posting here are now going to be working in the new dashboard exclusively.
-
Indeed and that was the master plan, wasn’t it? And that’s why the convenient dashboard link was removed, and also why the “improved editor” blah, blah, blah notice appeared on the dashboard.

@ Timethief Preaching to the converted.
@ dateranalysisblog I’m not really supposed to say this anymore in the forums but bookmark the wp-admin link. It will make your life easier (for as long as WordPress.com keep it available…)
