How can I evaluate a theme with a free account?

    I have a couple of wordpress sites hosted elsewhere. For simplicity, I would like to host one at wordpress, with a custom domain. However, I don’t want to put a lot of time into this one, and must to be sure I can find a theme that does what I need. Once I have it working, I will get a custom domain, and business plan.

    It seems I need a paid account before I can try out themes that are not in the default list.

    Is there anyway to try out some themes for free? Before I commit to the business plan and domain name. It does not even need to be publicly available.

    If you create a free site you could activate any of the free themes or look at a live demo of Premium themes at https://wordpress.com/themes. You say:

    themes that are not in the default list.

    If the themes you are interested in need to be purchased from somewhere that is not WordPress.com you’d need to approach the theme developer/reseller directly.

    @donchambers, also remember that you can purchase any plan you’d like to try and, if you’re not happy, you can cancel and obtain a refund within the first 30 days.

    Bear in mind that if you register a custom domain, you could only opt for a full refund during the first 96 hours. After that time, we could only refund the cost of the plan minus the cost of the domain.
