Hi there,
To change a page’s template, edit that page and look for the “Page Attributes” box on the right side of the screen. There should be a dropdown that contains a list of page templates:

Here is some more information that might help:

Also, regarding placing a “featured Image” on home page. The instructions say:
4. Featured Page Featured Image
The profile image is displayed by adding a featured image to the page selected within the Appearance > Theme Options > Homepage settings. However when I go to Appearance> Theme Options> Homepage Settings, the only homepage setting that appears is a slideshow option.

Hi Calli,
Sorry for the confusion! Those instructions are actually for the self-install version of Profile that Organic Themes distributes, which is set up a little differently than it is on WordPress.com. We have some internal FAQs listed here:
http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/profile/support/These are the comparable instructions for WordPress.com:
Main Logo (Portait)
- Navigate to Appearance → Customize
- Click “Logo”
- Follow on-screen instructions
Let me know if that works okay for you.
