How can I find the themes that other sites are using?
-
Often when reading another blog I see a theme that I would like to use but I don’t know how to find its name. Can you tell me how I can do this? I know I can try out different themes on my blog but this seems a long way to go about it.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi,
If you’re logged into a WordPress.com account you may find the theme used by another WordPress.com site in the Action Bar. However, the privacy settings on the browser you’re using might block the Action Bar identification of the theme on WordPress.com sites with custom domains. For example, I don’t find your theme identified in the Action Bar, due to my privacy settings.

As far as WordPress sites are concerned, visiting your WordPress.com site and clicking on the Action Bar (the three dots bottom right) tells me you’re using the Twenty Fifteen theme. You also have an older empty site wearing the Twenty Twelve theme. If you look at any sites using the WordPress.org software then putting the address into http://whatwpthemeisthat.com/ is a good resource.

Thank you both for useful replies. I will have a go at that. I changed my theme yesterday and made a total mistake in it and would like to get back to my old theme but can’t find it. Is there any way I can do that?

Only Staff can give you that information if you’ve forgotten the name of the previous theme you were using. Saying that, I could have sworn the name “AltoFocus” flashed up for a moment yesterday before “Twenty Fifteen” did. https://wordpress.com/theme/altofocus
If that isn’t the one you’ll need to ask staff to look at your account history by adding the word modlook to the tag box on the right. -
Are you all set? Looks like you were using AltoFocus, then switched to Twenty Fifteen, and now you’re back with AltoFocus.
-
No, it’s still wrong. I’ve got a snapshot here of the original site and it wasn’t Auto Focus as I tried that one and this is what I arrived at. I do want to get back to something like the original one, I especially want my categories at the top as they are below, but I can’t see what to do unless I just go through them all, activating until I get to one I can work with.
Ah! Snapshot won’t paste here, I shall try and send it in a separate email. -

Looks as though this is it. I’m searching for it now and will activate it on my site to make sure. I’ll let you know. Many thanks.

I went back further in your site’s history, and I see that 9 months ago, you switched to Colinear.
That’s also what it looks like in Google’s cached copy of your site:

When you switch themes, you may need to reassign your custom menu to the theme. The menu should still be saved, you just need to reassign it to your theme in the Customizer’s Menus area.
You may also need to move widgets back from the Inactive Widgets area of the WP Admin dashboard (at the bottom left here: https://travelsineuropeandasia.wordpress.com/wp-admin/widgets.php ) to your theme’s new widget areas.
Let me know how it goes!

Back again. I’ve set up another theme as I couldn’t find the one I thought it was and I’ve set up the Menu so I’ll leave it for the moment. But, is there anyway I can take my photograph from the Header Image? It’s right in the middle of a nice picure of the Italian Alps and rather ‘in your face’. I’m not into much self-publicity so I’d rather lose it, if possible. Of course, it may be a feature of this theme. It’s time I did some more blogging though, rather than setting up themes? Incidentally, what does the Links widget do?

Sure! Go into your site’s Customizer and open the Theme Options panel. Remove your email adress from there.
Incidentally, what does the Links widget do?
You can read all about it here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/links-widget/
