How can I fix font irregularities that appear on PC browsers only?

On Firefox and IE on a PC, fonts look odd, especially in the menu. Not all letters are the same size, making it look like the words were written as a ransom note. It is also happening in body text.

The problem appears to be independent of font; I reproduced the problem with several different sans-serif fonts. I didn’t try serif fonts, as I want sans serif for my site.

On Safari and Chrome on Mac, fonts look just fine — all letters are the expected size.

    Hi there,

When I view your website from a Firefox browser on OS X Mavericks, the font appears to be displaying correctly. I went ahead and uploaded a screenshot to your Media Library since your site is set to private. Can you let me know if that’s consistent with what you’re seeing in Firefox? If not, can you upload a screenshot to your Media Library so I can see the issue in action?

    Hi,

As I mentioned, it does look fine on OSX, so I wouldn’t expect you to see the problem there.

It’s on Windows browsers that you see the problem — IE, Chrome, and Firefox. I did add a screenshot to my gallery. Look at the menu text, and the text in the italic quote on the right side of the home page. In the menu, you will notice that in each word, some capital letters are larger than others. It looks like a digital version of a ransom note! This problem is independent of which font I select — I tried it with several fonts, and all have the same problem, visible on PCs only.

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi!

I was able to reproduce this on a Windows machine in Chrome. I’m looking into the issue!

Just a note, when I changed the body font from Puritan to another font, the issue seemed to be resolved. Can you let me know if you’re experiencing the same thing? I tested FF Meta and Arimo, and I didn’t experience the varying letter size and alignment.

    Hi there,

It looks like the Puritan font simply renders poorly in PC browsers. Unfortunately, there isn’t anything we can do from our end to improve how the font renders. Can you try switching to a different font and see if the issue persists?

Thank you for your help! We had tried other fonts, but it wasn’t working properly. For some reason, it is now.
