How can I format posts to show a few lines of text with "more…" at the bottom?

    Hello–

I want all my posts to be formatted to show a few lines of text with a “click here for more” line at the bottom, so the reader can see many posts at a glance and then choose to read one in-depth by choosing to see more text in a particular post.

I don’t know how to find themes that will allow this kind of formatting. Can you help?

    Thanks very much.

Hi there, you can either choose a theme that supports excerpts, such as the Inuit Types theme: https://en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/excerpts/

Alternatively, you can use the More tag on individual posts: https://en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/more-tag/

Thanks very much for your answer. I post almost everything via email, so the “More” tag doesn’t work in my particular instance — I can’t insert it via email.

I am at a loss for how to find themes that include “excerpts.” The “feature filter” for searching for themes does not include “excerpts” as a searchable category. Looking through all available themes seems to be the only way to find one that displays excerpts. Maybe this feature could be added to the feature filter.

I tried Inuit Types, but it does not wrap long URLS; as a consequence, they spill from one column to the next, often making the right-hand column unreadable. Maybe this could be fixed?

By examining many themes, I have found “Fresh News,” which does the trick — so, problem solved.
