How can I get a download link in a post?

  • Unknown's avatar

I’ve got a new blog that will allow readers to download a jazz song for free. I’d like the reader to be able to listen to the song as they read the blog (I’ve done that with the imbed player feature). But once they’ve finished the article and maybe like what they’ve listened to, I want them to be able to click a download button (or something) to be able to immediately download the mp3 song – WITHOUT having to go to the blogroll and click a link to mediafire (where I store my songs). It would be so much more convenient for the reader to do everything right from the post. Can this be done or am I crazy?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi Dave,

Yep, this can be done. :) After you embed the player for your song, you can click the “Add Media” button in the editor to add the song to your page again — this time, to add a download link for the song.

After you choose the song, look over at the sidebar on the right. Under “Attachment Display Settings,” you can switch the “Embed or Link” setting to “Link to Media File.” Here’s what that setting looks like: https://cloudup.com/cVZZ-vyj4-R

That will create a link to the song file so readers can click the link to download it. Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)

Yeah, I had done that – but didn’t have enough sense to RIGHT-click on the link to download it – duh! Hopefully, most readers will know to do that. Thanks so much for such a prompt and intelligent response. Now I’ll work on getting the link to the bottom of the article instead of the top. Thank you again…

    Hi Dave,

Oops, I forgot to mention that detail! Depending on the reader’s browser settings, you’re right that they will likely have to right-click on the link to download it. (Most browsers these days will open the link in the browser by default when you left-click an audio file, rather than downloading it.)

Please let me know if I can do anything more to help with that!
