How Can I Get Audio Files to Play on My Blog?

    Audio files on my blog are not playing when the link is clicked. Instead, a download window opens. That’s not what it used to do – and not what I want it to do. I want people to be able to listen to the file on the blog. I’m using Chrome (as I have been for many months).

    Hi there,

    If your current browser does not support HTML5 audio for your uploaded format, or Flash Player is not installed, a direct download link will be displayed instead of the player. However, Chrome does support this, so you should not be having this issue.

    Can you share a link to a page or post on your site where you are having this issue? I’m happy to take a closer look.

    Also, because the HTML audio player feature depends on browser compatibility (visitors with unsupported browsers may get a download link instead) you may want to try using Soundcloud, and embed the Soundcloud audio player on your site instead.     Hi Todd,

    In looking at that page, I can see what happened, and the good news is that it is an easy fix.

    So what is happening here is that you are converting them into hyperlinks (download links, if you will) by giving them custom names like Nicodemus, Mary of Bethany, etc.

    Instead, try using the audio shortcode shown here, rather than turning the file URL into a custom hyperlink:

    [audio http://viaexmachina.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/windows-into-gods-love-nicodemus.mp3]

    Which will look like this on your site: https://cloudup.com/czrxGsF9KVa+

    You can then add whatever descriptive text under the player that you feel you need.
