How can I get Google to recognize I've moved my blog to a new host and URL?
-
I just recently exported my wordpress.com blog to a new host with a new URL. I want Google to recognize that my blog has moved, but I’m having trouble figuring out how to do that. I thought about trying 301 redirects, but I don’t think that’s really the solution. I haven’t deleted my old blog just yet either. I was wondering what was the best way for me to tell the crawlers I’ve moved.
Thanks!

DON’T DELETE THE OLD SITE – all your options go away if you do
You say “new address” so I am assuming you did not have a domain name mapped to your blog here –
Buy the site redirect upgrade – that will give a 301 redirect for your old blog
That will help search engines – it will take a while for search engines to adjust to a new URL – making new Posts on your new site will also help – but a traffic drop is normal
