How can I get my domain back but cancel the premium
-
Hello,
I am super confused. I bought ontheriver.org with the premium wordpress.com, only to realize it is not what I need. I have used wordpress.org a lot and realize I need to stick to that. I cancelled but no emails were sent to me. Then I did more research that says if i cancel I can’t buy the domain name somewhere else. Ideally I would cancel everything then rebuy the domain somewhere else, if that is not possible can I keep the domain and just cancel the premium?
Thank you very much,
Sara

Hi there,
That’s not a problem! I’ve gone ahead and cancelled your WordPress.com Premium bundle and refunded you the $73 difference. I have left your domain in place. In about 60 days, your domain will be unlocked by the registrar (all domains are locked for the first 60 days after purchase for security purposes), at which point you can transfer it to another registrar if you so choose.
You can also point your domain to another host by changing your nameservers by following the instructions included below:
I hope this helps!

Great! Thanks!
In the meantime can how can I work with my domain? Can I use wordpress.org yet? Can I use the nonpremium version of wordpress.com? And when I do transfer will the content transfer too or just the name?

Well, you can do any of those!
You can indeed use WordPress.org and just point your domain towards whichever host you prefer. You would do that by pointing your nameservers using this help article:
Or you can just log in to your WordPress.com blog’s account and blog here for a while. Once you’re ready to get a WordPress.org site going, you can export your content and followers (those who have subscribed to your blog) over to your new WordPress.org site. We have help articles which will walk you through that process too.
You can log in by going to WordPress.com and log in with your username and password, or just go here:

Let me know if you have any other questions!
