How can I get my podcast graphic to show up in iTunes?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi, I have been unable to get my podcast graphic to show up in iTunes. I have had some communication with an Apple support site. Here is the advice I was given, which I can’t quite understand. Do I need to make the changes at WordPress.com or at Feedburner. Sorry, code kind of makes my eyes glaze over, but I’m trying! Thanks! – Tommy

    You don’t have the ‘iTunes declaration’ in the second tag:

    <rss xmlns:itunes=”http://www.itunes.com/dtds/podcast-1.0.dtd” version=”2.0″>

    Nor do you have any ‘itunes:…’ tags including ‘itunes:image’ without which your image cannot appear in the Store.

    You have made your podcast in WordPress. I can’t advise on that, but I suspect there is a setting somewhere to make your blog suitable for iTunes.

    Hi Tommy,

    First I just want to check that you’ve followed the instructions to set up your podcast here: Podcasting

    Specifically, in the Submit to Feedburner section, make sure you followed step #12:

    12. In the “Configure Your Podcast” page, check the box next to “Include iTunes podcasting elements”.

    Then, in FeedBurner, you can set up SmartCast for your podcast feed:

    https://support.google.com/feedburner/answer/78990?hl=en

    SmartCast should let you add an image to the FeedBurner feed. If you have any questions about how that works, you may need to contact FeedBurner support for more information.

    I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions. :)

    Hi Rachel,

    Thanks for your reply. I did use those instructions to set up my podcast and the podcast itself shows up fine in iTunes. I have added the image in Feedburner’s Smartcast and it shows fine when I click on it. I made sure I had “Include iTunes podcasting elements” clicked.

    The support at Apple said this:

    >>>You don’t have the ‘iTunes declaration’ in the second tag:

    <rss xmlns:itunes=”http://www.itunes.com/dtds/podcast-1.0.dtd” version=”2.0″>

    Nor do you have any ‘itunes:…’ tags including ‘itunes:image’ without which your image cannot appear in the Store. <<<<

    This is rather cryptic to me. Do you know where these tags he mentions originate? Is that in the WordPress code or something I could change at Feedburner.

    Also, is there an alternative to Feedburner for making WordPress.com podcasts work with iTunes? Preferably one that has tech support?

    Thanks! – Tommy

    Hi Tommy,

    Those iTunes tags should be created in Feedburner when you set up your podcast feed there. There isn’t much we can do on this end to help if Feedburner isn’t setting up the feed correctly, but you may want to check out these troubleshooting tips from Apple:

    http://www.apple.com/itunes/podcasts/specs.html#troubleshooting

    I am not familiar with alternatives to Feedburner for podcasting, but you might be able to get help from the Feedburner community here:

    https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/feedburner

    You may also want to ask in the iTunes podcasting forum here:
