How can I get published version to match version I see while editing?
-
Hi WordPress,
I just published a post http://sweetplanetpoems.com/2012/12/04/surprise-in-paradise/
I’m having trouble with it. The type size I selected for the first few paragraphs is Heading 4. I see this type size while editing, but not in the Preview and not in the published version. I tried everything and finally gave up.
Also, I followed your instructions for adding a YouTube video, and all I get is the link. I have done this many times with no problems.
I emptied cookies and cache on my browser to no avail. Are you having problems on the site? Thanks, Monica Glickman

Hi there,
It appears that in your theme, the H1 – H6 tags are all set to 1.5 em for the font size. You can get around this by setting your text size inline (let me know if you want help doing that), but using the heading tag won’t be helpful.
As a general best practice, the heading tags really should only be used for headings, anyway, since that’s how screen readers and other assisted viewing devices will interpret them. So you could use “bold” or just bump up the text size inline (as suggested above) to avoid confusing those devices. :)
I am seeing your YouTube video at the link you posted – has this cleared up for you, or are you still experiencing a problem?
Thanks!

Hello zandyring,
Thanks for this interesting response. There’s a lot to think about here.
I wonder if theme font size (1.5 em) has changed, since I used to be able to select a smaller heading font and see it both while editing and in the published version. I often want to use a font smaller than “paragraph”, which gets kind of boring after a while, and that’s why I’ve chosen the smaller heading fonts. So I should know how to set text size inline. I have seen something from the help section about font sizes and would appreciate any further advice you can give. Using heading fonts seems SO MUCH simpler. Couldn’t I just choose an even smaller heading font, realizing it will be 1.5 times the size I see while editing? Interesting about assisted viewing devices. But how many people will actually use an assisted reading device to access my blog?
I did get the video to embed. I finally started a draft post, had no trouble embedding, took the text editor language from the draft, copied and pasted it into the published blog. Something about the location of my poem text was keeping the video text from starting on a new line.
And finally, do I have to worry about subscribers seeing all my attempts to fix the blog? Or is receiving updates a setting on their blogs?
Thanks so much,

Hi Monica,
The theme could have changed some of it’s underlying structure.
You are, of course, welcome to use the header options if it helps you change the size of the font – because you’re right: screen readers are an edge case. In our situation (WordPress.com, I mean), we really have to stick by those best practices; our users often don’t. I always encourage best practices, but this is one of those cases where you’re PROBABLY ok. One thing to watch out for would be if you switched themes and headers were handled completely differently.
So if you’d like to give in-line styles a go, you can do this:
*Go to edit a post like you normally would, and switch to “text” view (instead of “visual”)
*I’ve saved you a draft on your blog showing you in the text mode what to do: https://monicaglickman.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=1521&action=edit&message=10
*You want to include
<p style="font-size: XXem;">Your text</p>*You can omit this for any “regular” text. The XX in the above can be anything you like. Ems are sensitive, so if it’s set to 1.5em, 1.8 em is quite a bit bigger (and it’s what I used in my example), but you’ll probably want to change the decimal instead of the whole number :)
I hope that helps!

Hi zandyring,
Thank you so much. I will definitely play with this and give it a try. I also appreciate your heads-up about a theme change and how that might change other things.
Good wishes, Monica -
