How can I get the image editor working?

Although I can upload images, the image editor will not work. When I click on the image editor icon, I only get a completely blank white window. I’ve conducted Google searches on the problem and the most common advice was to edit the functions.php page, but I’m not even sure if that’s an option for me as a wordpress.com user. Another possible solution was to change my theme, but I already did so to correct ANOTHER issue and would really rather not do so again. Any help will be much appreciated.

    Hi there,

You’re right, you can not edit any of the php pages which make up your website.

Instead, if you would like to edit any of your images, we recommend navigating to your Media Library and then clicking on the image that you would like to edit. On that page you can click on a button which says “Edit Image,” which should bring up the image editor for you.

Thank you. Would it also be possible to center images in the post using that method, or should I just switch to the HTML editor for that?

Actually, when you have inserted the image into your post or page, you can just click on it. When it’s selected (you’ll see a frame around it), you can use the menu items in your visual editor to center it. That’s usually the easiest way to do so!
