How can I get the sidebar to appear in the Boardwalk theme?

Hello! I am trying to use the Boardwalk theme. Everything is going well so far, except I cannot seem to get the widget sidebar to appear anywhere. Judging from the documentation, Boardwalk IS compatible with the sidebar. I have tried to add the Twitter Timeline and Archive widgets, but neither are visible, although they are listed in the ‘Customizer.’

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

    Hi,

The slide-out sidebar on the Boardwalk theme is opened by clicking on the three-bar icon at the top right corner of the title/header area.

Thanks for that tip, although I certainly figured that much out. And in fact, since my original question, I also got the Archive widget to appear.

The Twitter widget, however, still eludes me. I am starting to wonder if it is perhaps incompatible with this particular theme.

I don’t think that’s the case. A common reason for the failure of the widget to appear is entering the Twitter Widget ID incorrectly. The number only should be entered, not the entire URL that includes the number. You can highlight and then copy and paste the number.

The Twitter Timeline Widget support page says (with an illustration between the two sentences):

Your widget ID is the long number you see in the URL while editing your Twitter widget…Copy this widget ID — you will need it to display your Twitter Timeline on your blog.

Thank you for that added tip, but I did consult the support files first, and I believe I set it up correctly, including the Widget ID number.

However, I am now wondering if the default settings (e.g. the height) need to be altered to make the Twitter Timeline compatible with the Boardwalk theme. That said, the Archive Widget works, so I am still stumped!

Apologies, I just sorted it out. The problem was not with adding the widget: it was with viewing it. An overzealous adblocker plugin in Safari was blocking it!

Excellent! Glad you detected the cause of the failure.
