How can I get thumbnails of pages to show on my home page? I'm using Organization theme
-
I’d like the featured images from key pages to show up as thumbnails on my home page. Not sure how to do this. See the Organization theme example in WordPress themes–that’s what I’d like to do!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there!
To setup your front page like the Organization demo site, you’ll need to take a few steps:
- Create a new page called “Home” with no body and use the “Homepage” template. (Example)
- Open up your blog’s Customizer
- Select the “Front” tab and in those settings use “A static page” , then select “Home” as the static front page
- Still in the customizer, select the “Theme” tab.
- Use those dropdowns to select which pages are featured. (Example from the theme’s demo.)
If you plan to use blog posts in addition to just static pages, you’ll also want to create an empty “Blog” page (or “News”, etc) and select that to be your Posts page in the “Front” options of your customizer.
Best,
-Alex G.

Thanks—all this makes sense except that I had already set up my home page with the title/tagline, colors, header, a menu with 5 tabs (including ‘Home’—and it seems to be acting as one. My intended home page comes up when I press “View Site”—or when I go to a different menu tab and click on Home it returns there. However, although I can select the featured pages (tabs) under Theme as you described), it doesn’t give me any options under Category for News or Category for Tabs and when I tell it to Save the selected featured images don’t show up—in fact, nothing changes in the view of the home. Also, when I select Show all Pages in the Dashboard it doesn’t show as a Homepage or as a page at all.
Any thoughts? Do I have to delete it and start over?

Right now your homepage is not a static page. It is your “latest posts” page.
It may seem counter-intuitive, but you first need to setup a static home page (my steps #1 and #2) before you can make use of the organization theme’s front page capabilities.
You don’t need to delete anything and and start over. You won’t lose the work you’ve put in on the menu and colors, we’re just changing the way your site knows to display the content for the Home page.
However, although I can select the featured pages (tabs) under Theme as you described), it doesn’t give me any options under Category for News or Category for Tabs
This is because you have no Categories setup to organize your posts. You’ll need to create some Categories here before any options appear in that drop down:
https://cboydbrewer.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit-tags.php?taxonomy=category
Read here about how Categories work:
and when I tell it to Save the selected featured images don’t show up—in fact, nothing changes in the view of the home.
This is because even though you’ve selected the options, WordPress doesn’t know to display the theme’s special front page. You’ve not setup a static front as instructed in my steps 1 through 3. Once you follow those steps, these options come into play. You basicaly did step 5, but not steps 1 through 3.
Also, when I select Show all Pages in the Dashboard it doesn’t show as a Homepage or as a page at all.
This is because you’ve not created a static page called home, like I mentioned in step #1. The home page you currently have setup is not a static page, just a listing of all your Posts.
