How can I get traffic to my site with a free account
-
Someone in the beginners Facebook page told me to join the Worldpress community, as they supposedly accept those who don’t have a paid account. I sent an introduction post with the description of my site over a week ago and it’s still pending. What is the wait time and will they actually let me join? Some of us just can’t afford to pay—it’s not that we wouldn’t if it were possible, so there should be a way to let people know that a site exists. I can’t be added to Google or Bing with a free account either. Thanks in advance.

Hi there,
You are a part of the WordPress community since you can create your site and you can write a topic while we can answer it. You don’t need to pay and you can do many things with your free account.
Now, I’ve read your previous topic about Google verification.
Where you able to do it?
If you did It’s important to note that it can take search engines, like Google, four to six weeks to index a new site.
If you didn’t please go ahead and follow this instructions:
https://wordpress.com/support/site-verification-services/#google-search-console.
If I’m still not answering to your question, please let us know so we can help you. -
Thanks for your quick response. When I dropped by the Facebook “WordPress For Non-Techies” they told me that WordPress.com is totally separate from WordPress.org and that I can’t use the verification code with the account I have. I had tried and tried and poured over the instructions, but in the end, my homepage can’t have the code put on it and that was that. I think this is a bit unfair, to be honest, but business is business and if you haven’t got a .org, there’s not much I can do.

Hi,
Yes, you are right WordPress.com and WordPress.org are indeed two different things. But the instructions are actually for WordPress.com.
It’s really well explained, but please, do tell us what part specifically is the one that makes your think it can’t be done.
Do you have a Google account? because you’ll need one. Maybe start there and then you can go ahead with the instructions. -
I use Gmail, so I guess that means I have a Google account. I will try again to get that pesky verification code where it’s supposed to be. What has me confused and somewhat frustrated is that I have to put it between the <head> and <body>, which necessitates having HTML on my site and I just use regular text.

Also, I’m not sure if this is relevant or not, but when I try to edit my homepage, I get a mostly blank page with “Invalid Parameters (catagories)” . Can this be fixed? And is this where the code ultimately goes? (Sorry for all the questions, guys).

Ok, yes,
I see you’ve been struggling to understand that part because Google’s instructions say one thing and WordPress instructions say another.I have to put it between the <head> and <body>
NO, YOU DON’T.This is how you do it:So, when it says in Google:
. Copy the meta tag below, and paste it into your site’s home page. It should go in the <head> section, before the first <body> section.
YOU DO THIS INSTEAD:
You take that same meta tag and copy it and go to:
My Site(s) → Tools → Marketing → Traffic.
Scroll down to the Site Verification Services section, and paste the code you copied from Google’s HTML tag section into the Google section.
Click Save SettingsI think this will do it. Let us know and good luck!!!

You were right in thinking it should go in the head. This case would work if you were coding your page, but since WordPress has already done it for you, you just use their settings.

Thank you for all of your valuable help. Now I can finally get that code where it should be. I couldn’t have done it without you. :)
