How can I get WordPress to work for my students?

I am a middle school teacher. I am trying to have my 118 students create wordpress blogs so that we can talk about what we are reading and have virtual book club discussions. We are having a lot of trouble creating accounts. Some students continue to get Error 666 messages when they are trying to create blogs. We are also a completely digital school – each student has an iPad. We’ve downloaded the iPad app, but often times a student will get a message that says they’ve lost connection to the server and they cannot write on their blog from their iPad. We’ve tried bringing in class sets of laptops, but WordPress remains the only site we struggle to work with. I really REALLY want to be able to use your site with my class. What can we try?

Are all of your students signing up for accounts at once? If so, we do limit the amount of signups per IP address to prevent spam. After waiting for about an hour, you should be able to sign up additional students for WordPress.com accounts.

For the students who are having trouble with the iPad app, are they already signed up for accounts? Are they all being disconnected at the same time or does it happen sporadically?
