How can I get WP to recognize my Xanga xml back up files?

  I have followed both of the instructions provided by Xanga and WP about how to import my archives. (I have been here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/import/ and http://en.support.wordpress.com/import/import-from-xanga/ .)

  I have a zip file from Xanga and extracted it, but when I upload one file to WP it says, “The file is not an xml file. Please see instructions for downloading and using the Xanga backup file.”

  The files do not exceed 15MB.

  I deleted the zip files from my computer and downloaded them again, but the same message from WP appeared when I tried to upload them.

  So, how can I get WP to recognize my Xanga xml back up files?

  Please try using a different browser (or updating your version of IE) to see if that helps. You can also try the WordPress importer tool rather than the Xanga one. Generally one of these two tricks will work. If you’re still having trouble, please let me know.
