How can I give Password Protected instructions to viewers/readers when there’s no way to give instructions on the post’s page!?

    Hi there!

It’s possible to password protect an individual page/post by adjusting its Visibility setting. You can see this setting under Advanced Settings to the right-hand of the post editor:

    https://wordpress.com/post

Click on ‘Password protected’ from the dropdown and enter the password of your choice. :)

Hope that helps out! Let me know if you’d like any clarification on that.

    Hi siobhyb!

Thanks for the feedback. Yes, you are correct with those directions. However, my need/problem is that the post is already password protected but I’d like to give my viewers/readers instructions as to HOW to contact me for the necessary password.

As it seems right now, WordPress does not allow me to give specific instructions on their Default Password Protected page general viewers/readers see. WordPress’ default page only asks them to enter the password.

    Does that make sense?

Oh, I see, sorry for misunderstanding your original question!

You’re right that there’s not a built-in option possible to change that text, but I can think of a couple of workarounds for you to provide instructions:

    * You could enter some brief instructions in the post’s title, as this is still displayed to all users e.g. “Contact Me via the main menu to read a Woman’s Point-of-View — #1

    * If you choose to purchase WordPress.com Premium in the future, then it would be possible to add some extra text to that page using <a href=”https://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/#custom-css
“>custom CSS. If you’re not familiar with CSS, it’s a coding language that’s used across the web to change the appearance of websites. Here at WordPress.com, it’s possible to add custom CSS to override certain design elements of your site.

Let me know if either of those workaround would help out.
