How can I have a thin border around my pictures?

How can I have a thin border around my pictures? but away from the actual picture so that there is white space between the picture and the thin line border?

Helps to know what theme you are using… Please edit your forum profile to include a link to your wordpress.com blog

If you are using the “insert image” dialog box in the post editor, there is a place where you can set the border. (it’s about the 4th box down from the image URL)
You’ll want to experiment a little until you find out what you prefer.

@membracid-good point, but it doesn’t appear that the definitions in the insert image dialog box overrides the theme’s CSS. I’m using Cutline and while I could change the width of the image border, try as I might I could not change the horizontal or vertical spacing. What was especially annoying was that any changes I made appeared in the Visual Editor window after “Save and continue editing”, but nothing changed on the actual entry via the Preview, so it’s my thought that the theme’s CSS overrides whatever you put in that box.
So, again, it would be good to know what theme busybusy is using. :)

There is of cause the nerd method for dummies like me. To create a thin white frame in “Paint”…

I’d like to do this too- i’m using the unsleepable theme. it doesnt seem to work when I set it up in the visual editor…

I don’t know which version of Kubrick we are using here on wordpress.com, but assuming that you host your blog here on wordpress.com, then it doesn’t appear that the Kubrick style sheet in use here on wordpress.com allows borders around images. (FWIW-I previewed my blog in Kubrick in the theme preview and all image borders were stripped out.)
To make a long story short, universalgeni’s suggestion to use a graphics program to add such a border, would be the only way to do it.

@busybusy
Kubrick 1.5 is a later version of Kubrick than is being used here at wordpress.com. Do you have a blog hosted here at wordpress.com, or are you self-hosted using the software downloaded from wordpress.org? If you are using the software downloaded from wordpress.org, then you are in the wrong forum and need to be over at http://wordpress.org/support/
