How can I have images in my post open in a new window?

  • Unknown's avatar

The changes to the visual editor apparently took away the ability to have images in my post open in a new window ~ is there any way to do this now? I don’t want to lose the reader when they are transferred to a different site. (It would be great to have that option in widgets, as well.)

Like many others, I really would like the “more colors” option back. I’ve always tried to match text colors to the images I use in my posts. And it’s great and all that we can just “stretch” the images in our post, but that does not allow for accurate proportions ~ why can’t we also have an option for width and height like we used to?

It’s great when new things are added, but it would be nice if there would at least be an option to allow input of WordPress users’ opinions before the decision is made to take something away.

Howdy Dani, While the post editor has changed, there is a simple way to make sure your image links open in new windows. To illustrate this, please open your post, BIG POETRY GIVEAWAY, in the editor.

Click on the Text tab, rather than the Visual tab which is open by default.

When the window opens, you’ll be greeted with the code that informs how your content should look/behave. At the top of the window, in the very first link (which begins a href= between two < > brackets), you will see that I added the text: target=”new” into the very end of that code, right before the end bracket.

If you check out your website, you’ll see that this opens the image in a new tab. Whenever you want to have one of your image links open in a new window, you can paste the exact same target=new code into your hyperlink. Feel free, of course, to delete the code that I added, if you don’t want that image to open in a new page.

Please let me know if you found that code, and if it all makes sense to you.

Like many others, I really would like the “more colors” option back.

It’s possible we may build in new ways to change text color in the future, but for now, you’ll need to use the default set of colors. If you need to use a custom color, you can choose a default color from the palette, and then edit the color in the Text editor window by editing the six-digit “hex” color. To find out the “hex” color code for the hue you want, take a look at this site:

    http://www.colorpicker.com/

When you move the cursor to discover new colors, you’ll see the 6 digit/letter combo change. When you find the color you want, you can copy those 6-figures and add them to your code in the Text tab.

It’s great when new things are added, but it would be nice if there would at least be an option to allow input of WordPress users’ opinions before the decision is made to take something away.

I really appreciate what you’re saying. I hope you’ve contributed your thoughts here:
