How can I have my blog diplay seperately on .wordpress and a custom domain?
-
Before my site official moves to its custom domain, I would like to have the same content displayed at both the .wordpress and .com locations without redirection so that people have time to update bookmarks and social media links before the full merger. I would also want both to update whenever I made changes to one.
How would I go about that? Do I need to start a new, private blog and have it map to the address or can this be done automatically?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hello there,
A custom domain needs to be connected to a WordPress.com site. Without a site, a domain is just a name…but it doesn’t represent any content.
If you give your WordPress.com site a custom domain, your current followers will not be lost. Anyone who visits http://kelandmelreviews.wordpress.com/ will be see http://kelandmelreviews.com/ in their address bar. They won’t be lost in the shuffle. All of your content at kelandmelreviews.wordpress.com will simply display under the name kelandmelreviews.com.
Here’s a bit more information about your custom domain and how it operates with your WordPress.com site:
I hope this helps clear up some confusion, and addresses your concerns. If you have any other questions at all, please don’t hesitate to drop me a line. I’m very happy to help.
You can certainly create a new site with a custom domain, and then transfer that custom domain to another WordPress.com site, but you may be creating more work for yourself than necessary.
Let me know if I can help further. Wishing you the best of luck with the new domain.

Thank you for the help. I do have a last questions, however. What does this mean for links that have been shared on social media. My blog gets a lot of it from people sharing specific posts on Facebook and Twitter. Will those still go to the correct pages or will they lead to a dead end?

Hello there!
As long as you don’t change the names of your posts once you upgrade to your custom domain, you’ll be fine.
Here’s an sample from my test blog…
I had a WordPress.com site and upgraded it to a custom domain. It used to be thatrobyn.wordpress.com it’s now thatrobyn.com.
This is what happens when one of the old links is visited:
Notice that the old link still works, and it goes directly to the custom domain name (without .wordpress.com in the URL).
I hope this helps! If you have any other concerns, drop me a note. Thanks much!

Thank you so much! This pretty much means I don’t have to spell write a post about the change because no one will notice. You have been extremely helpful.
