How can i host off wordpress.com and not move my address?
-
Hi,
I have my site at http://losefatwithme.wordpress.com
i dont have the money to buy a domain, but i WOULD like to transfer my hosting from wordpress.com over to 000webhost as they allow wordpress to be hosted.
simply put, i need better stats. And i cant get them right now with wordpress.com i love it though.
so, can i transfer my blog over to this host and keep the free losefatwithme.wordpress.com domain?
thank you!The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You cannot use the domain URL here with a self-hosted blog. To self-host, you will have to buy a domain name.
-
Why don’t you use an external stat program? There are lots that work with WP.com; there are suggestions on http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com

Just a note of caution, some of the comments on WordPress.ORG Forum tend to be a bit skeptical of free self hosted sites for a variety of reasons. WordPress.COM is the only “free” WordPress site that has not been bashed.
What type of Stats are you needing? There are a few Stats packages that can be added to your WordPress.COM site.
If you move to a self hosted site, free or not there is a whole new level of things you need to learn about being a webmaster. Many people never quite make the transition.

well, i was using statcounter to track sites on blogspot, and the thing works very very well. i can see where the search terms come from, what terms used, referring pages etc.
i cant what search engine search terms and what engines searches come from. i also cant see WHERE people are coming from. I am selling services on that wordpress.com site so that would be helpful.
i tried using statcounter for wordpress but it doesnt track search terms, referring URLs, repeat visits, time on site, all the good things you would like to see.
nor does wordpress.com.
I know that google analytics wont work there. I mean, it is FREE, and i can understand where some restrictions are there for (upgrades etc) but man i would love to see some in depth details. who doesnt love details and stats?
if i had good stats, id have no reason to want to move it somewhere else. so i will check out the link above. anyone else have an idea?

I’m not staff, but I have been here four and a half years, so trust me when I say you are going to have to move that blog off WordPress.com anyway, sooner rather than later. This page in particular appears to be in contravention of the Terms of Service here:
-
Im not selling anything there directly… But I can also see how that comes off as too commercial.
Is that what you mean about breaking TOS?
If so I can remove it. Fwiw it is not affiliate marketing I am doing in terms of MLM…
So I dunno… If I BUY a domain from wp.com then am I ok? It beats the hassle of moving it.
-
On second thought I can’t see too much wrong with that. It is not paid advertising or sponsored blog etc. It’s not linking to an affiliate like amazon.com as I pay the company to promote it. My main drive is not to get people there, and my site is content driven.
I feel i have a legitimate site… So I hope I am not shut down because of it.

Check with staff. They are the only ones that can give you a definite answer. I’m with raincoaster though. It might be a violation.
-
-
And buying a domain doesn’t exempt you from the Terms of Service. I think you’d best set that page as a Draft and have staff look it over for the definitive answer.

Uh huh. You don’t see 21 different posts? Give me a break. Go look at the main page main post right now.
And yes, I sound defensive.
I agree with that one page, but don’t be one of those people that tell me it’s total cr*p with no content. -
Thanks for the suggestions guys.
I went and changed that page to private and I will keep it to content and keep the links minimal. Thanks again and I’ll ask about the status of the page later on the 19th.
BUT WHERE CAN I FIND GOOD STATS!?

@steven, we weren’t picking on you I hope you know, it’s just that a few of us have been around for quite some time, and have a reasonable feeling for when a blog might be pushing the line, or perhaps over it.
That said, only staff can make that decision, and they are quite easy to work with, so do contact them and let them have a look around. If there is anything they want changed, they will tell you.
