How can I implement a static homepage (frontpage) within a commercial theme?
-
The theme I am using is called forumengine. Due to my ignorance and incompetence I was not aware of this theme not having incorporated a static home page to customize. All there is instead is a page that displays all the thread postings ordered by time of posting.
The theme includes a tool for customizing the code. I presume this is where I will begin, correct?
Will I be altering the front-page.php, threads index.php (the name of the current home page), or some other .php or index file? I’m completely oblivious of where to begin.
I tried contacting the forum theme creators, but they are not willing to take the time to help me. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Is this a self hosted installation or a wordpress.com blog?
if its wordpress.com, use B;og Admin > Settings > Reading and select static page

It’s a wordpress blog. Although, If I try to select a static bage, it immediately reverts back to the ‘threads index’ page. It’s like within the code a static page is literally not enabled. But I have no idea what i”m talking about.

forumengine is not a theme available on WordPress.com.
It sounds to me like you may be posting in the wrong forum. If you are talking about a site using the standalone WordPress software, then you need to ask for help over at the WordPress.org site. We won’t be able to help you here.
The link to WordPress.org is in the footer of this page.
If you are talking about a site hosted by WordPress.com, please give us the link starting with http:// to make it clickable.

justjennifer was correct.
That is not a free hosted WordPress>COM blog. We provide support only for free hosted WordPress.COM blogs and not for WordPress.org software installs. You are posting to the wrong support forum.
WordPress.com and WordPress.org are completely separate, have different log-ins and run different versions of themes with same names.
If you don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right hand corner of the page that opens, so you can post to the support forums there and receive advice from WordPress.ORG bloggers.

it looks very much like you have a self hosted installation of wordpress, which means your in the wrong place.. wordpress.org is the place can help with your version of wordpress (link at bottom of page under community) they will i’m sure be able to help as the versions are different.

@tonybareham
Simultaneous typing lol :D
This isn’t a “looks like” situation. The blog is NOT a free hosted WordPress.com blog. It’s a WordPress.ORG install hosted by unified layer. You can confirm who hosts every site before you answer. :) -

I don’t go with tact. Setting aside the fact that I am a plainly speaking person who wants specific, detailed and correct answers the first time I post, the reason why tact doesn’t cut it is clear.
Almost every one of these threads can be answered clearly and definitively in a single comment box. When tact enters the picture we end up with mile long threads explaining step by step what can and cannot be done. I have over 7 years worth of detailed copy and paste answers that suffice to provide a clear and full answer in one comment box in almost all cases.

@tt and tony-I thought my earlier answer was pretty clear and gave an opening for the OP to verify whether the site was hosted on WordPress.com or not. We don’t really need to repeat each other, do we? Just saying…saying…saying :)
@meowwerson- You’re in the wrong forum :) If you need clarification on the differences between WordPress.com (where we are) and WordPress.org, have a look here: http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

I agree with you and will happy to comply.

@tt And I’m now happily off for my evening herbal tea and a book. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

@thistimethisspace – what is your problem??
Since you want plain speaking he is some… quit digging at other posters about their answers! you just make yourself look very silly.
or is it just me you have a problem with? maybe because your “7 years of detailed copy and paste answers” didn’t answer my question the other day….. so you decided to answer something i hadn’t asked?
