I’m sorry but you can’t do that. There are code restrictions on WordPress.com blogs. The two options (Translation page and translation widget) you can use are found here > http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2011/02/14/translation-widget-for-wordpress-com-blogs/

I have followed the instructions on this link carefully – using search and replace for quotations and trying again manually – but it has not worked.
I’d be grateful if anyone could help with this.

Hooray. After a frustrating hour or so (reading all the posts on the blog) the translation button now works fine.
The problem was the curly quotes but it was deceiving because even though I changed the quotes and changed the font in two different ways (search and replace and manually), the normal size print does not show the quotes as being curly.
The answer was to change the screen size to 200% zoom where it could be seen that while some quotes had changed from curly to straight, some hadn’t.
I don’t know how that happened, but never mind!
It works now, so thank you very much.
It’s an excellent plus for a blog.
