How can I limit the message characters on the Contact Us form, add counter and captcha?
-
I have tried changing it to text instead of textarea according to other posts I’ve seen, and still would not change. How do I set the character limit (ie: 10-150 characters, or just max:150 characters) in the ‘message’ or ‘text’ box on the contact us form? And how do I add a counter and captcha?
Please advise ASAP. Been struggling with this stupid thing for days!!!!!!!!!!!! -
Hi there,
We do not offer a way to set a character limit in our contact form tool. If I can ask, why are you trying to limit the amount of text you collect in your form? I’m not sure we have ever received this kind of request before, but I am happy to see if there is a workaround you can consider, but I’ll need to understand what you are trying to set up a bit better.
Thanks for the additional info!

Basically, if someone wants to contact, the only info needed will be name, email and a short message – “short” being the operative word. No time for long messages so let them send a quick note and if more communication is needed, we can do more later. But just a short intro is necessary.
So any advise for character/word limit in the message/text of contact us?
Also, what about using captcha to avoid spam?
Thank you very much.

Hello there,
Ok, so these requirements aren’t something that come out of the box with WordPress.com – you would almost certainly need a plugin to do what you want to do, and for these plugins to run, the site would need to be on the business plan.
I can recommend using a plugin called Contact form 7 – https://en-gb.wordpress.org/plugins/contact-form-7/ whereby you can set a character limit ( https://contactform7.com/max-min-length-options-and-character-count/ ) and integrate with reCaptcha ( https://contactform7.com/recaptcha/ )
I hope this information proves useful.

Just so I’m clear…
Unless I upgrade and pay for the service, I will get spammed?
If someone wants to see my email, they just have to “debug” the webpage and it will show them in the code?
Thanks.

Hi there,
There is a level of spam protection, even on the free plan. Contact form spam is like comment spam here. If you come across it in your feedback section, label it spam, and our spam detection software is constantly learning the behavior of spammers and will begin filtering them out for you.
You can also add keywords, IP addresses, names of certain unwanted content you notice into the disallowed comments section, and feedback with that content will be sent straight to the trash:
For more information, please visit:

Also, emails are encrypted and no one should be able to access your email via your webpage. Hopefully, that helps.
Thanks!
