How can I link a Word.docx media, so readers don't have to download it?

Occasionally, I feature an author interview. As part of the interview, I like to include a sample of an author’s work, such as a short story. Right now, the only way I know of doing that is to upload a Word document of the short story, and insert a link to it in the blog post. When a reader clicks on the link, the file is downloaded to their computer. The problem is that many readers are leery of downloading files. So, what I’d like is for them to be able to click on the link, and have the document open up in a separate window. I thought I was pretty savvy, but I can’t figure out how to do this (or maybe it’s not possible).

    Anyway, here’s how how I’d

      like

    it to work:

“If you’d like to read one of Author X’s short stories, click on this link (the link might say Bill Smith’s Big Adventure.”

When the reader clicks on the link, a new window opens with the short story right there for them to read online. When they are done reading the short story, they can close that tab (or window) and return to the blog.

Is it possible to do this? If so, how do I do it?

If you want to embed the document itself, you will have to use a third party application like Scribd or Google Docs. Otherwise, the documents will appear as a download link.
