How can I login to administer my website? When I do, I can't do anything.
-
I am the administrator of my blog but can’t access it. For some reason it seems to think that I’m a contributor. The last time I logged in was probably in August sometime. I see now that there has been some sort of update since I last logged on and Ii’m extremely frustrated!

That is a self-hosted WordPress.org blog, which we really can’t help with.
To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities.
WordPress.org has complete support and documentation sites for self-hosted/installed versions of WordPress via their Codex and Support Forums.

’m sorry to report that you have accidentally posted to the wrong support forum. We cannot help you here at WordPress.com with http://www.alisonbrook.com/ as it’s not being hosted by WordPress.com and we run on different software. This is the correct forum for your software http://wordpress.ORG/support/ If you haven’t already done so you will need to register a WordPress.org username account on the top right hand corner of that page so you can post to those support forums.
For clarity read > WordPress.com vs WordPress.org: The Differences http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
Best wishes with your site. -
May I advise you of a similar problem with our web site/blog, http://www.ExPreacherMan.com, hosted by WordPress.com.
My co-Administrator sent me this note:
“I am being blocked from making any replies to anyone’s comments. I checked our moderation and lock-out files to make sure that my IP address or number got put in there by mistake. That was OK. I ran a complete computer cleansing today by my anti-virus company. That didn’t help. I tried contacting WordPress support but the SUBMIT button locks up whenever I try. What I will have to do for a while is to log out of WordPress, then comment as any outsider would, then I log back in and my comment goes through at that point.”I will appreciate if anyone has a solution ASAP or where I can get a solution for him. I do not have the same problem on my end.

Is your co-Admin running IE9 in compatibility mode? Using an IE9 browser in compatibility mode that makes it render as IE7 and IE7 is not supported. To disable see > http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1196-internet-explorer-compatibility-view-turn-off.html
If you or your co-Admin are running IE8 on Windows XP hen note this too. Microsoft’s IE8 support with be gone as of November 15, 1012. Internet Explorer 10 launches on 10/26/2012. The “extended support” life cycle of Windows XP will end on April 8, 2014, which is when Microsoft will no longer issue security updates for the decade-old operating system, leaving systems vulnerable to attack.

TimeThief,
The problem seems to have just developed recently for my Co-Admin.. Thanks I will have him read your comment and communicate with you personally. I use XP Pro and IE8 with no problem.

That won’t always be the case so don’t be complacent. One can upgrade any broswer version or download another browser here http://browsehappy.com.

I’m mutlitasking from work. I have a small business. I run a lot of chron jobs and supervise when I answer questions here. My working day has come to any end but not to worry as the other Volunteers will respond.

TimeThief,
Thanks for your advice — my co-adm updated his browser and all is fine now. Case closed for us.
I dread updates to the OS as I am blind in one eye and more than half blind in the other — I have legacy programs with which I am familiar and can easily enlarge in XP. Those probably will not even run in Win7 or Win8. So at 83 years old, I’ll just trudge along with what I have until 2014 and then update — or maybe I’ll be in Heaven by then. 8-)
Really appreciate your great help.
In Christ eternally, Jack (ExPreacherMan)
