How can I make an image lead to a completely separate file?

I wish to post an image to my page, with a clickable link. I realize this is simple, but I am having a strange issue. For example, if I set the click-through link to “www.facebook.com” it does not take me to Facebook, but to “www.wordpress.com/post/www.facebook.com”. The click-through links I create are bound within WordPress and will not direct to other URLs.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

That’s because WP.com puts an http:// in the box first, and you have not cleared that out before pasting in the actual URL, so you get http://http://whatever.com instead of the proper address.

Try putting http://facebook.com instead. That should work.

Thank you both, this has solved my issue. Additionally, is there a way for me to set it to where clicking the picture will either allow someone to download a file, such as a PDF, or for a PDF to be opened? My intention is for people to be able to click the picture of the cover art of the work I will be posting, and then be redirected to a PDF of the work. I could do this using Wix, but I have not figured out how to do it here yet, and would really prefer not to return to Wix.

Sorry for the late reply. When creating the link, simply insert the url of your pdf instead of the picture.
