How can I make my custom domain accessible with www. Prefix?
-
Currently when I type http://www.books-n-comics.com, the domain doesn’t work or redirect to the page. How can I have it fixed?
-
We actually strip out the www. for your convenience, and http://www.books-n-comics.com/ will always redirect to http://books-n-comics.com/
www is an old protocol from back when everything was under separate server hardware. www (www.example.com) was the web server, mail (mail.example.com) was the mail server, ftp (ftp.example.com) was the FTP server, print (print.example.com) was the print server, etc.
These days, everything is run under the web server, making www. redundant and a waste of four characters.
-
But is there any way to keep it? From the good old days I tend to dislike websites that don’t have these 4 characters

Is there a way for search to work? When I try to search for anything on my new direct books-n-comics.com, the system always renders 0 results
The way search goes is
Site:books-n-comics.com XYZAnd if I search for whatever and change new name for old mapped name, everything is found
Site:nomiresdebajodelacama.wordpress.com XYZ
Is it a bug? Is there a solution?

WordPress.com automatically sends notifications to Google with every post and page update. The search engines can take 4-6 weeks or more to add any new sites or changed domains, it’s entirely up to Google.

Hi Macmanx,
I checked my problem with standard google search and it seems the problem is with WordPress and not google
To explain – when I search something in the search window at the top of my blog, the search goes like this:
site:books-n-comics.com comic
However, WordPress search doesn’t show results for my blog – it kills all dashes in the phrase and searches website booksncomics.com instead – which predictably gives 0 positive results.
If I go into google search directly and type
site:books-n-comics.com comic
it will give me tons of results. Can someone pls look into that on WordPress site?

You don’t need to use “site:books-n-comics.com” via the search field on your blog. That search field only searches your blog and nothing else.
-
I don’t type it at all, that’s the problem – I try typing any word and this is what the system adds on its own
-
-
There’s no search field at http://books-n-comics.com/ as you haven’t added a search widget.
It sounds like you’re using a browser extension.
If you have a screenshot, you can upload it via Media -> Add new in your blog’s Dashboard.
-
It means only one thing – I can’t search my own blog through webmaster/blog owner’s search field in the ribbon at the top of the blog – and that’s clearly not right
-
Oh, that item in the admin bar? It can take a few weeks for us to include you in the WordPress.com search too. I recommend just adding the Search widget to your sidebar. Results via that are specific to just your blog and are available instantly.
