    Hi there,

Currently, it isn’t possible to make your site multilingual as in having the page display content in two different languages with a toggle switch. The best option would be to include two versions of a page (English and Spanish) on your site with a link to each in your menu bar. Does that make sense?

Let me know if you need any help setting that up!

    It makes sense, Jeremy!
    One question:
Would I have to buy the theme again?
I say this because my theme can only have 1 menu.

    Thanks a lot!

    Hi there,

This depends on what you want to do. If you want to create two completely separate sites (one English and one Spanish) then yes you would have to create a new WordPress.com site (new domain name) and re-purchase the theme.

However, I don’t think that would be ideal. What I would do is just create a page that is in English and create another page that is Spanish and link to each in your menu bar as Jeremey stated.

Another option would be to add a translation widget here:

    Thank you, Grace and Jeremy.

I don’t like the translation widget; and having too many elements in my menu is not that nice either.

I have this crazy idea, I don’t know if it can be done:
I have to create: 3 landing pages, 2 wordpress sites. Why? How?

    1. Direct my domains lydialavin.com and lydialavin.com.mx to a landing page, I will design and program, that asks the visitor what language he/she prefers.
    2. If the visitor selects ENGLISH, it will lead to a second landing page, that I will design and program, with a home page and a re-created menu in ENGLISH. When the visitor clicks any element in the menu, it will take her/him to the selected page in the first wordpress site, which is in ENGLISH.
    3. If the visitor selects SPANISH in the first landing page, it will lead to a third landing page, that I will design and program, with a home page and a re-created menu in SPANISH. When the visitor clicks any element in the menu, it will take her/him to the selected page of the second wordpress site, which is in SPANISH.

I think this can be done, right?

However, my question is, what would happen if the visitor clicks “HOME” in either of the two websites? Can the HOME button lead to the second or third landing page?

Thank you very much for your support!!!

    Hi there,

We can do something similar on WordPress.com in that you can do this with 3 WordPress.com sites, one custom domain, and 2 subdomains.

So, you currently have the domain: lydialavin.com. What you can do is create your site on there. Then, create another “Spanish” version of the site and map that to one of the subdomains, eg. spanish.lydialavin.com. You can then create a third “English” version and map that to the other subdomain, eg. english.lydialavin.com.

That’s currently the best option that I can think of at the moment.

    Yeah!
Grace, I have the following questions:
    1. If I want to have two subdomains as you recommend, what would be the cost? Does a subdomain cost something?
    2. I understand that I would have to buy the same theme again, for my english site. However, do I have to buy the theme for the root site (lydialavin.com)? I ask this because it’s only function will be to direct people to spanish.lydialavin.com or english.lydialavin.com… I think it would be too much to pay for a theme that will only do that.

    ¡¡¡Thank you very much!!!

    1. If I want to have two subdomains as you recommend, what would be the cost? Does a subdomain cost something?

Yes the subdomain would be $13/year for each. So if you wanted two that would be $26/year on top of the domain mapping for lydialavin.com and lydialavin.com.mx.

If you want your English version to look the same as the Spanish version you would have to purchase it again for all your sites. So if you end up needing 3 different sites, then you would need to purchase it on all three sites. If you don’t mind them looking different then you wouldn’t need to :D

    Happy Blogging!
