How can I make my theme look like this one?

  So I want to start a toy blog that looks similar to this site. I’m running into problems because I can’t seem to make my post photos appear as large as these appear. I would love to have the same functionality where the photos blow up when you click on them from the front home blog page like this.

  My post photos appear very small, even though I change them to be large. You have to click on them to take you to a full size image where the photo is located on the site. I’m happy to pay for a theme, but I think the problem is with my understanding since I have already downloaded and tried about 20 themes, including expensive ThemeForest ones. I’d appreciate any help!

  For starters we need the URL beginning with http of the blog in question before anyone can give you accurate advice.
