How can I make text length consistent in side-by-side column themes?

In side-by-side column themes like the Columnist and Suburbia, why does the text in the front page columns very in length? How can I make the text consistently the same length? The length doesn’t seem to depend on how much text appears in the single post. The only difference I can see is whether the photo in the single post is a landscape (wider) or portrait (taller) one, but even if all the photos are landscape, the excerpted text on the front page columns varies in length. I’ve searched everywhere for an answer with no luck. Thanks for any tips!

You can more or less control the length of that by creating Excerpts. You can find more information here:

Another possibility would be to insert a More Tag where you see fit. You can find more information about that here:
