How can I map a sub-subdomain to my blog?

  • Unknown's avatar

I’m trying to create a multilingual blog. My approach will be two independent blogs. I know I can do, for example, blog_en.mysite.com and blog_es.mysite.com, but can I do en.blog.mysite.com and es.blog.mysite.com? I know the difference in the end is trivial, but would still like to know my options. Thanks!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

I checked, and you should be able to do this.

At your domain registrar, edit the domain’s DNS and add a CNAME for the subdomain you want. So in the Name field type, for example, en.blog, and in the points to field type the free WordPress.com address of the site you want to map the domain to, e.g. mysite.wordpress.com (type it without the htttps://). The only potential problem is if your domain provider doesn’t allow you to add a CNAME with periods in it, in which case you won’t be able to create the subdomain to start with.

On our end, you should be able to add mapping for a sub-subdomain the same way you’d add it for a regular subdomain: My Site ->Domains ->Add ->Map It

Thanks, this is extremely helpful. I’ve been debating between self-hosted (flexibility and expandability) vs. WordPress.com (minimal setup required), and I think with this I’ll go back to WordPress.com now.

    Also, I noticed that WordPress.com itself uses the en.blog… / es.blog… approach. i.e., en.blog.wordpress.com and es.blog.wordpress.com.

  • I’m glad to hear that helped.

If you run into any difficulty with adding the actual mapping upgrades here, please let me know.

Hi Kokkieh thanks for your help… Im trying to setup a subdomain for same purposes (one english, one spanish)… I am a business customer and am trying to setup the website in spanish, but can’t get it to work as an independent wordpress install so far.

I’ve already created it at the dns option, yet it hasn’t worked for now..

    thank you
