how can I migrate BACK to wp.com?

How can I bring my site back to the wp.com servers?
Originally my site (bnbhiouchi.com) was on wp.com servers, using the Opti theme. I then went the self-hosting route and utilized a more robust theme (using Site5 hosting, The7 theme). The bells and whistles however are not working out (slow load times, lackluster support at Site5) and I want now to localize content/support/theme _back_ under the .com roof.
_ Is this possible?
_ Does wp have migration specialists who can help?
_ Can I keep The7 theme or will I need to bring content into a new, wp.com-compliant theme? (by the way, I am not terribly fond of The7)Thank you.

Themes cannot be exported and imported. See Moving from a Self-Hosted WordPress to WordPress.com https://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-from-self-hosted-wordpress-to-wordpress-com/

@timethief — thank you for the link.
Is there an intelligent way to match an existing .org theme to a .com theme so the transition doesn’t create an organizational nightmare?
Is a site that contains 28 gigabytes of content an absurd amount of data to maintain on a .com site?
Again, thanks.

Hi there,

There will be some cleaning up that you will to do once you move your content back over – especially since the theme that you were using isn’t available at WordPress.com. However, I am sure you will be able to find a theme with similar features to the self-hosted theme, which would allow for a smoother transition back over to WordPress.com.

It’s not a lot of content to maintain with WordPress.com, but it will require a business plan in order to have that amount of space available for your site. It’ll also be a chore importing all of that content back to WordPress.com, but we’ll make it happen!
Let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks!

staff-doublebassd Thanks for the reply, answers and suggestion.
Does WP have a migration team or group I can work with to make this happen (secure business plan account, move content to WP servers, change nameservers, help or offer guidance on new-theme navigation?)?
Is loading time ever an issue with a site that has so much content? This is probably the most disappointing aspect of the bnbhiouchi.com site now…slow load times for home page, wait times for links to become live, then load times for lower level pages and posts..
Is there a period of time where I can assess the new business site on WP and if not happy, cancel out the agreement at no cost (or penalty)?
Thank you! Curt

Unlike Guided transfer, where we offer a service to migrate your site from WordPress.com to WordPress.org, we do not have a similar service for the other way around. However, I can help you with the majority of the migration:
- Help change nameservers over at site5
- Help with import if it gets stuck
- Help figure out a theme similar to the one you had with your self-hosted site
- Figure out how we’d get all of your content over.
- Help with the purchase of a business plan
We have a support page that provides straightforward instructions on how to move your blog over from .org:

WordPress.com can handle lots of content, but how your site (and particularly your images) are optimized, plays a huge part on how quickly your site loads. Too many large image files, widgets, etc. can cause loading issues. I’d have to take a look at your site to see what is going on with it.

You have 30 days to use the business plan and if you decide that it is not for you during that time period, you can indeed receive a full refund.
For more information on a refund, please visit our support page:

Let me know how I can help. Thanks!

staff-doublebassd Again, thank you for the answers, info, offer to help in the process.
A transition back to .com sounds very appealing. Before taking the next step, could you give the site a cursory look to see if image optimization (of lack thereof) is causing the slow load times? (I currently use WP Smush but I may not be utilizing it to its fullest potential).
Also, how would we interact after I purchase a business plan and begin the transition? Forums, skype, voice, other?
Thank you.

Honestly, I can’t even tell because the site isn’t even loading fully for me. Is it for you? I’ve waiting several minutes and everything is still unclickable.

We could continue talking in this thread, I can email you, or if you purchase the business plan, we can have someone assist you via live chat. Let me know what works best. Thanks!

staff-doublebassd Hi Darnell.
I was just chatting with a WP support person — trying to figure out my site and current issues with DNS nameservers — and was told “bnbhiouchi.com and riverhousehiouchi.com are both associated with the website riverhousehiouchi.wordpress.com here at WordPress.com”
Can you help me understand how the three urls — riverhousehiouchi, riverhousehiouchi.wordpress and bnbhiouchi.com — interact?
We bought riverhousehiouchi.com first and changed to bnbhiouchi.com, and mapped riverhousehiouchi.com to redirect to bnbhiouchi.com. My big question concerns my not realizing that both sites are redirecting to riverhousehiouchi.wordpress.com until now.
Why is riverhousehiouchi.wordpress.com still in part of the equation?
My goal is for bnbhiouchi.com to be the anchor site, not riverhousehiouchi.wordpress.com. Can I not eliminate riverhousehiouchi.wordpress.com in order to simplify my WP profile?
Thanks Darnell. Curt

Can you help me understand how the three urls — riverhousehiouchi, riverhousehiouchi.wordpress and bnbhiouchi.com — interact?
So, I checked your account and bnbhiouchi.com is the primary domain to the account. Both riverhousehiouchi.com and riverhousehiouchi.wordpress.com are redirected to bnbhiouchi.com whenever a visitor types the domains into their browser. So, although riverhousehiouchi.wordpress.com is needed in order to domains connected to a WordPress.com site, neither the actual site nor the WordPress.com URL is visible to anyone – it is only used to redirect visitors to your primary domain. Your primary domain, bnbhiouchi.com, is currently pointed to a site hosted elsewhere (so is riverhousehiouchi.com).
All that to say, riverhousehiouchi.wordpress.com is rendered irrelevant and no one would be able to see the content of that site unless the nameservers of bnbhiouchi.com and riverhousehiouchi.com are pointed back to WordPress.com.
So, if you are wanting to move your content over to WordPress.com, you’ll most likely import over to riverhousehiouchi.wordpress.com and still mask that site with both bnbhiouchi.com and riverhousehiouchi.com.
I know its a little confusing, so let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!

staff-doublebassd Hi Darnell.
I’m ready to sign on the dotted line. :-)
Are you available to work with me on the “to-do” list you outlined earlier?
<<Help change nameservers over at site5
Help with import if it gets stuck
Help figure out a theme similar to the one you had with your self-hosted site
Figure out how we’d get all of your content over.
Help with the purchase of a business plan.>>Should I sign up for a Biz plan first?
Thanks. Curt

Hi Curt!
Yes, you can go ahead and purchase the Business Plan, and we can assist you with the to do list as much as we can on our end. Thanks!
