How can I modify my site's footer text?

    My site, which is upgraded to have its own domain name, functions as a news site, not a blog. Yet the footer reads “blog at WordPress” and I am at a loss as to how this can be modified, even if I upgrade and edit the CCS. (I saw nothing in the CCS edit preview that would allow me to do this.) I am, of course, happy to leave the WordPress link on there, as well as the template credit and I am simply looking to change the footer to read “Website hosted by WordPress,” or something similar. If I am not able to to do this, I will have to move my domain to an independent hosting service in the next few weeks, which I would rather not have to do, as I am happy with all other aspects of WordPress.com.

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    You can’t modify the footer to remove that text – that is considered a violation of the terms of service and your blog can be suspended.

    The current policy about the footer in the support documentation:

    May I remove the ‘Blog at WordPress.com’ credit in my site’s footer?
    Although the Custom Design Upgrade certainly grants you the capability to hide the credit from your site’s footer, you are not permitted to do so. Even our VIP bloggers are required to maintain the credit.

    Thanks for the quick response auxclass. I will go ahead and move my site to an independent hosting company and find a new template, if necessary, in order to change the footer. I would, however, suggest that WordPress at least give users the option of using the word “site” instead of “blog” in the WordPress credit. A growing number of people are relying on WordPress’ great templates and features to create professional websites, not blogs. This is especially true for those who decide to upgrade to their own domain name.

    I have seen several nationally known people that have their professional site here – domain mapping – no ads upgrade and they seem to have no problem with the “blog at” in the footer and I see some of these people on TV news shows on a regular basis – not all that many people read the footer anyway.

    The doc says we’re not allowed to remove the credits. I don’t think merely changing “blog” to “site” is any harm. You can do it by pasting this in a text widget in your primary sidebar:

    <div style="position:absolute;bottom:20px;right:21px;background-color:#fff;padding-left:120px;">
    <a style="color:#000;" href="https://en.wordpress.com/signup/" target="_blank">Site at WordPress.com</a>. Theme: <a style="color:#000;" href="http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/themorningafter/" target="_blank">The Morning After</a> by <a style="color:#000;" href="http://www.woothemes.com/" target="_blank">WooThemes</a>.
    </div>
