How can I move corporate site to WordPress?

  I have a long-term client whose web site I built. It’s hosted on their corporate server. I want to convince them to let me rebuild it with WordPress. It’s out of date, but they like having it on their corporate (NT) server. We don’t use FTP at present to upload (FrontPage publish). If I built something on the free site, could it move over to be a Business Site on WordPress.org?

  You can do a proof of concept here and show your boss how easy it is to make and change a site with the WordPress software – quick and easy – I have done that a couple of times

  but you can’t transfer the base database files that have the look and feel (custom header image if you use one, widget placement etc.) to a WordPress.ORG install on your company servers.

  You could move the content (pages and Posts) with the export function.

  You might be better off to make friends at WordPress.ORG – the .ORG is easy to install – you should be able to find instructions there on how to install it on a test directory on your company servers and then move it if you decide to use the WordPress.ORG software to make your company site better –

  you might point out to your boss that between 20% & 30% of new web sites on the internet are now driven by WordPress software – not just for blogging anymore

  True. And if I were pitching it to my boss, I would also throw in some points about all the tools (widgets here, or plugins at .org) that are available, ready-made by the WordPress community. Depending on your needs, your boss might recognize it as a long-term savings in functionality management.

  Thank you for your help! I read somewhere that it was possible to export a site from .com to .org, but it appears that that would not really be the right answer. What I should be proposing is a Business site using WordPress.org on my client’s server. He is likely to have security concerns, but we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it.
