How can I prevent spam comments getting through to my blog?
-
There seems to be more spam getting through to my blog in recent months. I am not sure if I did something that made that happen, but would like to know what I might do to block it more effectively again. Thank you.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
I just looked through your blog and it seems like all of the Spam is currently in the spam folder. Is it getting through to the inbox normally or is it always being directed to Spam?
Let me know!

Hi Ash
sorry I have been tardy in reply … I’ve been away.
the spam is getting through to the inbox – I have to spam them myself … some followers who choose to receive notifications of comments are receiving them also.
thanks -
Hiya,
No problem at all! I’m just around, so whenever you want to answer. ;)
But speaking of your answer, the default setting for comments (under Settings >> Discussion) is that commenters must have a previously-approved comment in order for their comment to go live on your site. However you have unchecked that option, so if any of the spammy messages get past the spam filter, they are going to immediately be posted.
You can always click the link which marks them as spam and they will go away, but your readers who have chosen to be emailed whenever a new comment is posted will get that spam message into their inbox. The only way to prevent that is to require a commenter to have had at least one message approved previously as I mentioned before.
