This should work:
<blockquote><div style="background-color:#F2F2F2; font-style: normal; text-align: center;">Copyright © 2009. Your Name. All rights reserved.</div></blockquote>You don’t need the color code (what you see there is for light gray), but it’s an extra touch. And the “normal” font style is used only because my theme automatically puts blockquotes in italics, which I don’t like. The text will be centered, so you don’t even need the “blockquote” code if you prefer a color stripe all across the bottom. Play around with it until you like the result you get.

You cannot add a footer here at wordpress.COM since we do not have access to the underlying theme php script files. There is a trick with pseudo CSS things that can be done, but anyone using Internet Explorer will not see your addition since IE does not recognize pseudo CSS stuff. In other words, it isn’t worth the price of the upgrade or the work to do it since half of the people on the internet would not be able to see it.
My suggestion is to put the copyright information into a text widget at the bottom of the sidebar. I have mine at the top of the sidebar just to make sure everyone sees it.

The code I posted above is something that needs to be added at the end of each post. It’s not a “footer” that automatically shows at the bottom of the blog, if that’s what you’re hoping for. However, it’s easy to do, and no CSS tinkering is required.
