How can I remove an old domain I no longer need that also expired?
-
I made a transition from a unique domain to a WordPress domain and on the new WordPress domain a black overlay still comes up every time someone visits the site that says that the old domain has not been paid for. How can I remove this overlay and cancel the old domain. Any assistance is appreciated.
The blog I need help with is arcadiaphysicsteam.wordpress.com.

Your domain has expired. Please see https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/domain-expiration/ for your options. I typed modlook into the sidebar tags on this thread for a Staff follow-up. How do I get a Moderator/Staff reply for my question? https://en.support.wordpress.com/getting-help-in-the-forums/#how-do-i-get-a-moderatorstaff-reply-for-my-question Then please subscribe to this thread so you are notified when they respond. To subscribe look in the sidebar of this thread, find the subscribe to topics link and click it.
Staff will remove domain mapping for you when they work their way forward to this thread, I just want to make sure you understand that when domain mapping is removed all the content in the site has to be re-indexed by search engines again under the original underlying .wordpress.com URL. That takes months. Meanwhile every link to the content under the domain URLs will produce a 404 page not found error in the SERPs (search engine page results) and everywhere the domain URLs appear on the internet.

It looks like this has been resolved.
If that is not the case, please post here and I will follow up.

Hi,
I have the same problem as above. I’d like to remove the expired domain “bayesianbootstraps.com” from my blog:
http://www.asensethat.wordpress.comI understand the consequences.

Thanks! Something strange has happened though. WordPress has now created a second blog for me (with no content) which is attached to my new domain (asensethat.com). Weirdly, asensethat.com previously directed to my actual blog (formerly bayesianbootstraps.com).
Can you help with this at all? I’d like to just have my actual blog with asensethat.com as the domain.
Thank you.

I am having this same problem.
http://austindeckandpatiobuilder.com is still listing as mapped in my domains on Wordress.com. The domain is owned by someone else now and I am getting the same conflict of the black box telling me to renew. Please cancel http://austindeckandpatiobuilder.com for me.
Thank you in advance!

The issue has been resolved.
It appears it happened on its own. I guess please dismiss the previous forum post regarding the domain of http://austingdeckandpatiobuilder.com -
I apologize, please do cancel the domain http://austindeckandpatiobuilder.com from my wordpress.com account. It briefly showed up correctly, then the black box came back.

Hi @austinporchandpatio — I’ve fixed yours too, and since you a have a new domain mapped here, I’ve made it primary for you.

@darkruby501 You’re all set now too: I’ve moved the domain to the proper site and made it the primary domain there.
Whew! :)
I’m going to go ahead and close this thread, but if anyone else needs more help, please go ahead and either get in touch with us here:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/contactOr if you would rather work in the forums, feel free to start a new, individual thread and add the Modlook tag. That way you won’t all have to receive a reply every time we help someone. Cheers, all!
