How can I remove 'Category: REVIEWS'

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi all!

    This is a brand new blog and I have zero coding knowledge (yikes I feel old). I have used category pages for REVIEWS and THOUGHTS. When you click onto e.g. REVIEWS, how can I remove the words ‘Category: REVIEWS’ at the start?

    Thank you!

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hello there!

    To remove the Category title at the top of the page you need to add a custom CSS code that tells the layout to ‘hide’ that bit.

    In order to do that, you will need a special feature that’s available only with Premium and Business Plans–among other interesting feature that will enrich your site.

    You can read more about the CSS editor at this link:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/editing-css/

    I hope you find this information useful. Please let us know if there’s anything else we can help you with :)

    Thank you for your speedy gonzales response!

    I don’t mind upgrading, but once I do, is it easy to add this custom code? I have no idea about coding (in fact I don’t know what CSS stands for :D).

  • @bugbabybelly, CSS stands for Cascading Style Sheet and is used by web pages to help keep information in the proper display format. Let’s say that if the content of your site is the body, the CSS is the clothing :)

    We’re happy to provide you with the right code to paste onto your CSS editor once you upgrade, so you don’t need to worry about that!

    Thank you! I love your description!

    Last question…I think if I upgrade, my blog will go from being called https://bigbabybelly.wordpress.com to http://www.bigbabybelly.com – is that correct? I bought the domain name http://www.bigbabybelly.com, so can I still use it with WordPress?

  • With the Premium plan you have a custom domain and a domain mapping included in the bundle.

    If you already have purchased a domain and don’t want to add another one, just let us know and we’ll make sure to include that in your bundle and you save some money.

    Hope that’s clear!

    Yes, I already have one. DO you mean let you know when I sign up to upgrade? Or before then?

    Thanks!

  • After you upgraded, do let us know so we can include the custom domain or the domain mapping (depending if you purchased it at WordPress.com or from another domain registrar) within the Premium Plan. Also, we will provide you with the right CSS code you need :)

    Hello,

    I’ve now upgraded. Can you tell me how to:

    – remove the “category: …” text at the top of each page
    – remove the category name from above each post

    Thanks!
    Pamela

  • Hello Pamela!

    Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. To remove the Category text at the top of each page you have to go to your Customizer area at this link:

    https://bigbabybelly.wordpress.com/wp-admin/customize.php

    Then select the CSS tab, and paste the following code onto it, right after the orange text:

    h1.page-title {
    display:none;
    }

    And click the Save and Publish blue button at the top of the page. It should be working :)

    As a heads up, I also noticed that You successfully managed to add your domain bigbabybelly.com. However, it is still not pointing at your WordPress.com site.

    In order to complete the procedure, you need to ask your domain registrar (or you can do it yourself if you can access to the dns control panel) to update your name servers (in the DNS settings) with the following:

    NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS3.WORDPRESS.COM

    You can find more details about the mapping procedure in the following link:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/

    Let me know if all is clear and if you need any help on the above. Cheers :)

    Thank you!

    Can I also get it to remove the category name above each post, e.g. “Reviews” above “Ultimate Savoury Muffins”? https://bigbabybelly.wordpress.com/category/reviews/

  • Here it is!

    span.cat-links {
    display:none;
    }

    Let me know if it works!

  • Unknown's avatar

    Worked perfectly – thanks!

    Can I put a few lines of fixed text above my posts on my homepage? Perhaps with a widget?

    Also, how can I get my links to twitter/instagram to open into new links?

    Thanks

  • Can I put a few lines of fixed text above my posts on my homepage? Perhaps with a widget?

    I’m afraid that’s not possible unless you don’t create a static front page, but this way you will lose the blog stream on the front page (you can’t have them both).
    The only area of your site where widgets can be placed in your current theme is the sidebar.

    Also, how can I get my links to twitter/instagram to open into new links?

    Are you referring to the social media icon appearing at the top of your sidebar, they’re defined by the Social Links Menu you have set up in the Menu area. It is possible to make them open in another tab and I can explain how to do it, though it’s a bit time consuming and not really user-experience friendly, if I can spend my personal 2 cents on it.

    Let me know if you have any other questions!

    Hello!

    I have mapped my wordpress site to bigbabybelly.com, but it still comes up with the .wordpress bit – can you change this?

    Thanks
    Pamela
