How can I remove the avatar option?
-
I saw that question marks appear above my and some other people’s comments. Then I realized that you recently enabled us to have avatars, and question marks appear because those people including me don’t have avatars at the moment. Is it possible to disable the avatar option at the comments section?
It’s nice that you enabled avatars but I don’t want question marks appear on the comments. Also, non-wordpress commenters won’t have avatars and this won’t look nice. -
I don’t think non-Wordpress users can post in this forum, so that shouldn’t be an issue. Given the uptake ratio, I’d assume most people will have something, no matter how prefab, here in a week or so.

If I played about with the avatar, decide it looks like LiveJournal/MySpace and now want to revert to having no avatar at all, how do I do that ?

Translation – @sunburntkamel ;)
It was a sugggestion I made about using a plain avatar on another thread that I was giving the wink for.

For all of you who want the avatar gone, I have made said blank avatar. http://spongefile.wordpress.com/files/2006/09/blankavatar.jpg

for those of you who want that understated sophisticated look that will blend in with the grey forum boxes. And here’s a light grey one that will show up on both white and dark grey:

Everyone happy now? ;P -
Umm…Despite avatar appearances, I’m not a him…just ask my girlfriend(in the background: “WHO just made kisses at you? Time to get offline!”) ;)
-
Not to worry girl ***my kisses*** are gender neutral, I send them out to both men and women. Also I’m a safe cyber kisser because I’m taken and have been with the same partner for 3 decades.

veltis is a girl??
we should put gender right under the avatars. i’m getting gender-confused more and more each day!

@sulz
IMO wordpress is chick magnetized. Of all the serious blogging platforms there are (discounting the ones that function only for the purpose of creating social contacts), mark my words – wordpress is going to become THE place for blogging “cyber chicks”. Check out the themes wank has ready here http://ntuat.wordpress.com/. My guess is she senses what’s coming just as I do. ;) -
yeah, wank posted some stats a while ago implying that the majority of bloggers are female (largely due to livejournal as a swing vote).
whether or not the majority of wordpress.com blogs are female, the majority of active forum members definately appear to be female. -

I recently saw a book about the history of journal or diary-keeping (sounds boring, but the bits I snuck a peek at were actually rather fascinating–I’ll be buying it later) and there was a whole chapter about how little girls are given diaries early on, so they learn to put their feelings and thoughts on paper, whereas diaries for little boys are more rare. And what is blogging, but in many cases an online diary that you let strangers read? I’m not so surprised if there are more female bloggers around.
But I’ll join in:Wank is a girl?!?
@sulz, isn’t it kind of cool that you don’t necessarily know? You get to interact with people as people, instead of what you might expect them to be… :)
-
That’s not entirely true veltis.
If people arbitrarily decide on a person’s gender, they will interact with people how they expect the other to respond (per gender, etc.).
As ‘anonymous’ and vast as the internet is, people still get preconcieved notions and run with them.[edit]
Not to say that I wouldn’t mind a gender setting. Fun little profile bits like that are… well, fun!
